A Story About Community

This is a story of a community helping each other and welcoming in a new family. Many years ago, a man and his wife had moved to St. George, Utah, with their two babies. The couple was very nervous about moving to the new area. They arrived on a Friday evening, and the temperature was 114 degrees Fahrenheit. It was so hot and they had a big truck full of stuff to unpack with two crying, hungry babies. The wife started crying. They both thought they might have made a mistake by moving there, since they didn’t know anyone. A few minutes later, a man and his wife drove by on their way to go see a movie, and saw the situation. They rolled down the window, introduced themselves, and asked if they could help them unload their truck. The couple was so thrilled to get some help! Before they knew it, 25 other people arrived to help, whom the gentleman had called. The moving truck was unloaded within one hour.

The couple felt so much love and appreciation that night, from all the people who had donated their Friday night to help them move, instead of going to a movie, or doing something else. No one had known how terrible this couple was feeling before help arrived. Their experience of moving to a new place ended up being a positive experience because of the sense of community they felt from those who served them that night.

Let’s serve!
